Tuna fishing affects marine animals such as sharks, turtles, whales, dolphins, and seabirds when they are caught on lines or trapped in nets. Animals caught inadvertently during fishing operations are known as bycatch. In sustainable fishing practices, the aim is to reduce bycatch and make sure these animals are conserved, especially those that are in danger of becoming extinct.
